The Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance, University of Lagos has played a pioneering

role in the development of Actuarial and Insurance education in Nigeria. This has become So obvious that most leaders in the Nigerian Insurance and Financial Industries, and academics in higher institutions in Nigeria are products of the University of Lagos.

The overall philosophy of the Postgraduate Programmes in the Department is as follows;

  1. i) The need to produce Scholars in Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

M.Sc. Actuarial Science

Candidates for admission into Actuarial Science shall have – following;

  1. First degree in Actuarial S from a recognized University
  2. First degree in Mathematics/Statistics, Economics, Finance and related areas.

M.Sc. Risk Management Insurance

Candidate for admission into M.Sc. Risk Management and Insurance

shall have the following:

  1. First degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science or Risk Management from the

University of Lagos or any other recognized University

  1. First degree in Business Administration, Finance,Economics and other related areas.

M.Phil Actuarial Science

Candidate for admission into M.Phil Actuarial Science shall have the following:

  1. A minimum of Second Class Upper Division or its equivalent in Actuarial Science,

Mathematics/Statistics, Economics or Finance.

  1. Candidate with Master of Science degree in Actuarial

Science, Mathematics! Statistics, Economics or Finance with a

Minimum CPGA of 3.50 or its equivalent.

M.Phil Risk Management and Insurance

* Construction of mortality; sickness, multiple decrement and other similar tables from graduated data.

* Determination and use of costs, regulation and taxes as well as valuation of corporate securities and the techniques for combining them efficiently into portfolios, and performance

* Sources and techniques of evaluation, graduation and estimation of survival functions from grouped mortality’ data; models of ageing and chronic diseases.

* Models for use in the analysis and actuarial valuation and management of life insurance and superannuation contracts.

Department OF Adult Education

The Department of Adult Education Department offers three Postgraduate Programmes:

Master in Adult Education (M.Ed.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). These programmes are designed for students who will be able to handle high-level study and research leading to production and development of high-level manpower and development of highly rated professional skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Master of Education (M.Ed.) in each of the specification Admission into the M.Ed. programme in any of the areas of specification is open to candidates who posses:

  1. The Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Education of the University or other approved Universities; (b)

a Bachelor’s Degree in Education other than Adult Education; (c )a good Bachelor’s Degree in disciplines other than Education with a PGDE. All candidates may he required to undergo a selection process.

  1. Only holders of honours degree in the areas specified above are qualified. The required area specialization must be indicated in the form.

Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Adult Education

Admission into the M.PhiI programme is open to two categories of candidates.

  1. Candidates who already post M.Ed in Adult Education, with a CGPA of at least 3.50 and

Department Of Anaesthesia

The Department of Anesthesia offers a postgraduate diploma in Anesthesia.

The programme is for full-time student only and is to last for 12 calendar months. It consist of nine courses, including practical theatre sessions, presentation of papers and participation in clinical teaching sessions.

The Department of Architecture offers three professional and academic programmes in Architecture. Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Botany

  1. The programme is open to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Botany, Biology, Microbiology, and Agricultural Biology or any related subjects and equivalent qualification of the University of Lagos of any other approved University,

ii A candidate maybe additionally required to satisfy a selection process.

Master of Philosophy (M.Pil) Doctor of Philosophy in Botany

  1. The M.PhiI. programme: is open to candidates with either:

(a) A Bachelor’s degree in B Biology, Microbiology, Agriculture Biology or any other related subjects with a minimum of Second Oat Division) or

(b) An M.Sc. in Botany or re subject, of this or any other approved University,

  1. The Ph.D. programme is open only to candidates having an equivalent qualification in Botany or related subject.

MASTER OF NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (MNRM)

AWARD REQUIREMENTS

This postgraduate programme is currently only running at the Masters level. It is interdisciplinary, recognizing that successful resource management can only he accomplished by combining technical aspects with social and economical understanding. The programme is aimed at developing natural resource managers of the future.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

(i) The programme is open to candidates who possess a Bachelors Degree in Sciences, Education Science, Engineering, Technology Earth Sciences and other related disciplines of the lnlversin’ of Lagos or any other approved University

(ii) Candidates are required to satisfy all other School of Postgraduate studies.

(1) A candidate with an M.Phil. degree of this or other approved university or equivalent qualification passing a minimum number of six and a maximum number of 12 units.

(ii) Satisfying all the other existing requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

DEPARTMENT of Building

The postgraduate programme in the Department is being offered to expose professionals in Building,

Architecture, Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying to advanced management skills to handle in line

with their professional inputs diverse and complex projects from inception to completion.

Projects are getting increasing large, more complex; traditional approaches to project delivery are being reviewed due to increasing pressures from clients that are getting increasingly sophisticated. Furthermore, projects are being executed across climates and international cultures with different contract and procurement arrangements.

Building services, as a discipline is no longer concentrated only on the design of electrical and mechanical plants in buildings. On a wider front, it is also now concerned with environmental issues, such as illumination, thermal comfort, noise control and fire protection. Building production processes and economic considerations are also important to the design and installation of the services in building.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission into the POD (BS) programme candidate must hold;

  1. (i) At least a B.Sc. Degree in Architecture, Estate Management, Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics.

To qualift for admission to the M.P.M. programme a candidate must hold:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (B.Arch, M.Sc, MED., M. Arch) or at least a Bachelor of Science Building, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, Urban & Regional Planning.
  2. Or a Higher National Diploma with Upper Credit in Architecture (B.Arch,
